The Oklahoma Scholastic Media Initiative (OSMI) has once again received a generous grant from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation. This grant will provide up to 9 Oklahoma Scholastic Media Initiative Grants to secondary school programs across Oklahoma. This year’s OSMI grants are limited to the startup or improvement of online publications.
The grant awards are divided into two categories: those for startup of new online publications and those intended to improve existing online publications.
Grants for each category are limited to $7500. Beyond funding, grant recipients will attend a mandatory five-day workshop designed to facilitate advisers in carrying out their planned program. Workshop content will include general guidelines specific to creation of online publications as well as refreshers on more common topics in journalism education (writing, interviewing, photography, etc.). The grant program covers all costs of the workshop.
